Participants open a secure study link in their browser. They do not need an account or an app. The opening explains the study and asks for any microphone or camera permissions required by the interview format. When the camera is optional, participants choose between turning it on and continuing with audio only, and are asked again if they reload the page. When a video study runs the camera check, which is on by default, a short sound and image screen follows: the microphone is confirmed and the picture is reviewed, with an adjustment suggested when the framing is poor. The experience can combine:
  • content screens for context, instructions, and stimuli;
  • form questions for choices, scales, rankings, or written responses;
  • voice questions for open answers and relevant follow-up questions.
Audio and video studies can allow typed answers. When an audio study allows them and has no screen-sharing questions, participants choose before the first spoken question whether to answer by voice or by text, which needs no microphone, and can switch at any question. A study can also show participants a cleaned-up transcript of their spoken answer before it is sent, so they can fix a misheard name or record again; if transcription fails, the answer is sent as recorded. Questions that require screen sharing need a recorded response and offer neither. Verso uploads recordings as the interview progresses. If a participant leaves and returns through the same link, they can usually resume where they stopped. Someone who comes back through a recruitment panel’s link after finishing is told they have already taken part. At the end, they see the completion message or the redirect configured for their recruitment source and outcome. Test the full journey on phone and desktop, including permissions, stimuli, conditional routes, and the final redirect.
