# Control fieldwork

> Move a study from preparation to fieldwork, completion, and archive.

A Verso study moves through four clear states.

| State         | What it means                                                                     |
| ------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Draft**     | The study is being designed and can run test interviews.                          |
| **Live**      | New participants can enter through the study link.                                |
| **Completed** | New interviews are closed and the results are ready for review.                   |
| **Archived**  | The study is kept out of the active workspace while its results remain available. |

The completion target can close entry to new participants once enough interviews are complete. People already in progress can still finish. Planned opening and closing dates help teams coordinate fieldwork, but they do not automatically change the study state.

  Saved changes to a live study can reach an interview already in progress when the participant moves to the next question. Test changes before saving them during fieldwork.
