# Interview design

> Combine structured questions, open conversation, and stimuli in one interview.

The interview guide controls what participants see and how the conversation develops. Verso supports three building blocks:

* **Content** introduces context, instructions, or a stimulus.
* **Form questions** collect structured answers such as choices, scales, rankings, or text.
* **Voice questions** invite an open response. The interviewer can ask relevant follow-up questions within the limits you set.

Group related questions into sections. Conditions can show a section only to participants who gave a relevant structured answer or arrived from a particular panel. Randomization can balance the order of concepts or stimuli.

For a refill-pack study, the guide might show the pack, ask what the participant currently buys, then ask: “What would make you choose a refill pack?” Add a clear research objective and short guidance so follow-up questions stay focused on barriers, benefits, and decision criteria.

Keep each question tied to a research objective, and test every branch before fieldwork.
