# Creating a study

> Start a qualitative study from a business question, a brief, or an existing guide.

Select **New study** to turn a research need into a draft study. You can start with a short description, attach existing material, or complete a simple form.

## Start from what you have

If the design assistant is available, describe the decision you need to make and the people you want to hear from. For example: "We are considering a refill pack for household cleaning products. Interview regular buyers to understand what would make them switch."

The assistant asks for missing context and drafts the study brief and interview guide. You can also attach a PDF, Word document, PowerPoint deck, plain-text brief, or an existing guide. Attached documents stay available with the study.

If you start with the form, enter the title and interviewer defaults, then complete the brief, guide, panel, and interviewer settings in the study editor.

## What you get

Every new study starts as a **Draft**. Its link can run test interviews, but those tests do not count toward recruitment, quotas, or the completion target. Review the draft, test the complete interview, then move it to **Live** when it is ready for participants.
